About Us
FAL Lawyers (Francis Abourizk Lightowlers) was founded in 1993 by Peter Francis and Jenni Lightowlers.
We’ve developed a reputation in Australia and overseas as leading legal advisors to all types of organisations involved in research & development, new technologies, intellectual property protection and commercialisation. In particular, we’ve delivered more research collaborations through Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) than any other firm.
Our lawyers have a wealth of experience as in-house counsel of listed companies, research institutes and government agencies. We are well-versed in the commercial, policy and legal imperatives that dictate the shape of complex transactions and arrangements.
We operate at the cutting edge of law and innovation in emerging technologies such as gene silencing and biotechnology; IT and Mobile Apps; trade marks; branding; and space satellite law, to name but a few. As such, we strive to ensure that legal outcomes are delivered to keep pace with technological evolution.
Whilst we have particular expertise in intellectual property, structuring collaborations and licensing, we are also experienced commercial lawyers. We provide day-to-day commercial legal advice on everything from corporate governance and capital raisings to IT contracts, employment agreements and dispute resolution.
We’ve consistently focussed on those industry sectors and areas of law we are passionate about. Our lawyers work in a balanced environment that allows us to be responsive to urgent requirements. Our deep knowledge and extensive industry network provide a competitive edge for those seeking to turn ideas into commercial reality. It also gives us a real advantage when advising on legal and commercial strategy.
