Two Bendigo workers back-paid $40,000
The Fair Work Ombudsman has announced that two workers at Bendigo in regional Victoria have been back-paid a total of $40,400 following intervention by the Agency.
The largest recovery was $28,100 for a cleaner underpaid loadings and penalty rates between May, 2007 and July, 2011.
After Fair Work inspectors contacted the business and explained its obligations, the 62-year-old male employee was reimbursed all money owed.
In a separate case, a 45-year-old workshop supervisor was back-paid $12,300 after inspectors found he was not paid overtime between October and December 2010, or given termination pay when his employment ceased.
The Fair Work Ombudsman recovered a total of $7.573 million back-pay for 3556 underpaid workers in Victoria last financial year. Nationally, the Agency recouped $26.7 million for 17,360 employees.
"The two Bendigo businesses have now corrected the errors that led to the underpayments and put processes in place to ensure they will not happen again," Fair Work Ombudsman Nicholas Wilson said.
