Appointment of WA Corruption and Crime Commissioner announced

Premier Colin Barnett and Attorney General Christian Porter have announced that retired judge Roger Macknay QC has been appointed as the Western Australian Corruption and Crime Commissioner.

Mr Barnett said Mr Macknay was well qualified for the role and would bring a great deal of knowledge and experience to WA's corruption and crime watchdog.

"Mr Macknay is a very experienced lawyer who practised as a barrister for more than 20 years before his appointment as a Judge of the District Court of Western Australia," Mr Barnett said.

"Mr Macknay's appointment has been made by the Governor on the Premier's recommendation, with bipartisan support of the members of the Joint Standing Committee on the Corruption and Crime Commission. He was chosen from a list of eligible candidates submitted by the nominating committee comprising the Chief Justice, the Chief Judge of the District Court and a community representative," Mr Porter said.
