 What is FindLaw?

FindLaw is a free legal information service containing information for legal professionals, students, business people, and members of the public.

How do I use FindLaw?

Here’s some common ways business people and members of the public use FindLaw.

Find information to help you with a legal problem

This is the most popular use of FindLaw. FindLaw has extensive legal information on legal issues that regularly affect business people and members of the public. For example, you can find information about disputes with neighbours, setting up your business or losing your job.

It’s often easiest to find information by starting at either the Business section of FindLaw or The Public section, as appropriate, and browsing.

Alternatively, use the FindLaw Search function on the home page. The search function, powered by Google, can be used to search FindLaw, or to search key Australian legal websites. (Search tip: When searching FindLaw, part words are most effective. A search on franchis will find documents containing franchise, franchising, franchisors and so on.)

Find a Lawyer

If you can’t resolve your problem using the information on FindLaw, find a lawyer who can help you using the FindLaw Directory. The FindLaw Directory contains details of over 16,000 Australian lawyers and law firms, all searchable by name, area of expertise and location.
